During the practical training, learners will work with real electrical installation components and develop practical skills in:

1. Components of Electrical Installations

Identify and understand the main components used in domestic electrical installations, including distribution boards, circuit breakers, earth leakage units, switches, socket outlets and isolators.

2. Wire Ways & PVC Conduit

Learn how to install PVC conduit and associated accessories neatly, correctly and safely for electrical wiring installations.

3. Distribution Board Installation

Work with a real distribution board and learn about the installation and arrangement of:

• Circuit breakers

• Earth leakage protection

• Neutral and earth connections

• Distribution board components

• Circuit wiring

4. South African Socket Outlets & Light Switches

Install and connect real South African socket outlets and light switches as part of practical domestic circuits.

5. Stove & Geyser Isolators

Learn how stove and geyser circuits are installed and connected, including the use of appropriate isolators.

6. Correct Wire Sizing & Pull-In

Learn how to select the appropriate cable size for different circuits and practise pulling electrical conductors through conduit and wire ways correctly and safely.

7. Electrical Testing & Safe Operation

Use appropriate electrical measuring instruments to test completed circuits and verify safe operation.

Learners will gain practical exposure to electrical testing procedures and the correct use of measuring instruments such as multimeters.

8. Inspection, Fault Finding & Repairs

Receive an overview of how to inspect domestic electrical installations, identify common faults and understand basic fault-finding and repair procedures.
